Optimized shape semantic graph representation for object understanding and recognition in point clouds

چکیده
To understand and recognize the three-dimensional (3-D) objects represented as point cloud data, we use an optimized shape semantic graph (SSG) to describe 3-D objects. Based on the decomposed components of an object, the boundary surface of different components and the topology of components, the SSG gives a semantic description that is consistent with human vision perception. The similarity measurement of the SSG for different objects is effective for distinguishing the type of object and finding the most similar one. Experiments using a shape database show that the SSG is valuable for capturing the components of the objects and the corresponding relations between them. The SSG is not only suitable for an object without any loops but also appropriate for an object with loops to represent the shape and the topology. Moreover, a two-step progressive similarity measurement strategy is proposed to effectively improve the recognition rate in the shape database containing point-sample data. © 2016 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) [DOI: 10.1117/1

Segmentation and Recognition of 3D Point Clouds within Graph-theoretic and Thermodynamic Frameworks
In the context of recognition of free-form objects, which are characterized by range sensorgenerated 3D point clouds, this dissertation addresses two fundamental issues (1) segmentation of surface meshes constructed over the input point clouds, (2) determination of correspondence between the Scene and Model point clouds. Many existing recognition systems require uniform sampling of the Model an...
متن کاملA novel Local feature descriptor using the Mercator projection for 3D object recognition
Point cloud processing is a rapidly growing research area of computer vision. Introducing of cheap range sensors has made a great interest in the point cloud processing and 3D object recognition. 3D object recognition methods can be divided into two categories: global and local feature-based methods. Global features describe the entire model shape whereas local features encode the neighborhood ...
متن کاملShape-Primitive Based Object Recognition and Grasping
Grasping objects from unstructured piles is an important, but difficult task. We present a new framework to grasp objects composed of shape primitives like cylinders and spheres. For object recognition, we employ efficient shape primitive detection methods in 3D point clouds. Object models composed of such primitives are then found in the detected shapes with a probabilistic graph-matching tech...
متن کاملShape Recognition in 3D Point-Clouds
While the recent improvements in geometry acquisition techniques allow for the easy generation of large and detailed point cloud representations of real-world objects, tasks as basic as for example the selection of all windows in 3D laser range data of a house still require a disproportional amount of user interaction. In this paper we address this issue and present a flexible framework for the...
متن کاملAutomatic Object Shape Completion from 3D Point Clouds for Object Manipulation
3D object representations should be able to model the shape at different levels, considering both low-level and high-level shape descriptions. In robotics applications, is difficult to compute the shape descriptors in self-occluded point clouds while solving manipulation tasks. In this paper we propose an object completion method that under some assumptions works well for a large set of kitchen...
